PURPOSE: To quickly obtain information on the layout display of a counter with reference a customer and information on a present position in it by a method wherein, when a shopping cart reaches a prescribed position, indication information is read out and the present position of the cart is discriminated.
CONSTITUTION: A cart C is provided with one pair of right and left wheels 21 installed at the lower part of a frame 8, with a basket part 9 installed in the central upper part of the frame 8 and with a handle 10 protruding to the upper back part of the frame 8. When the cart C reaches installation positions of tags A installed in main points such as branch points to individual counters in the passage of a floor, indication information on the tags A is read out by a tag reader 1 which has been installed in the central position on the lower- part side of the frame 8 in such a way that its transmission and reception face is faced with a floor face. A cart controller discriminates the present position of the cart from the read-out information and from counter layout information stored on the side of the cart, and the present position of the cart in the counter layout information is displayed two-dimensionally on a display board 2 utilizing a liquid crystal or the like installed at the front of the handle 10.
