PURPOSE: To easily but accurately lead the tip of a guide wire inserted into a blood vessel to a target lesion, e.g., a divergent blood vessel, by longitudinally providing fine wires made of metal or synthetic resin inside a part of the wall thickness of a synthetic resin cover.
CONSTITUTION: A guide wire 1 has a synthetic resin cover 2, e.g., a synthetic resin tube or mono-filament with the same outside diameter, and a metal core 3 comprising metal filaments, e.g., tungsten. Four fine metal wires 4 made of a resilient alloy, e.g., Ti-Ni alloy, are longitudinally provided inside of the wall thickness of the synthetic resin cover 2 in parallel. The guide wire for medical purposes thus attains sufficient hardness and intensity on the whole and the tip thereof easily and accurately reaches a lesion in a blood vessel. When the metal core 3 comprises a metal with small X-ray permeability, e.g., a resilient alloy, if a X-ray impermeable metal, e.g., tungsten fine powders, is added to the synthetic resin cover 2, especially to its tip, X-ray monitorial abilities can be improved.
