PURPOSE: To provide an electrostatic-bearing acceleration-detecting type gyroscope which is manufactured at a low cost and has a long life, excellent durability and a wide range of applications.
CONSTITUTION: A gyro rotor 20 is supported without contact against a gyro case 21 by electrostatic bearing power, and is driven into spinning motion about an axis of spinning along the Z-axis by a rotor driving system. The gyro rotor 20 is disc-shaped and comprises thin films of metal serving as electrodes 29-1 to 29-4 on both sides of a plate made preferably of an insulating material. The gyroscope has a constraining control system that constrains the displacement of the gyro rotor 20 in the direction of the Z-axis (direction of the axis of spinning) relative to the gyro case 21 and a center-position control system that constrains the displacement of the gyro rotor 20 in the directions of the X-and Y-axes.
