Title:
GYROSCOPIC HORIZON DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS59141014
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
This invention is a means for providing a pilot of an aircraft with a projective bar of light (42) which illustrates by its angle to the horizontal the bank angle of the aircraft, and by vertical position the pitch angle of the aircraft so that it acts as an artificial horizon. The bar of light is derived from a laser source (64) of a point of light which is directed by means of an adjustable plane mirror (148) on a first scanning mirror (102) scanning fast enough to generate from the point source of light an apparent bar of light (B). That bar is directed onto a mirror (114) which is scanned in synchronism with the scanning of the mirror (102) about a mean angle of deflection representing the pitch of the aircraft as derived at (80) from signals from an aircraft instrument with an amplitude dependent upon the bank angle as determined in a similar manner. An alternative form of the plane adjusting mirror is shown at (272) in FIGURE 14 with a special mounting which is in turn mounted on a turntable (180) also carrying the scanning system (70). In FIGURE 16 adjustment of the position of the light beam is provided by finely adjusting the mounting of the laser beam source (292). In Figure 20 light is directed towards the scanning system over a fibre optic cable (344) the attitude of which is finely controlled about two mutually perpendicular axis by the adjusting mechanism (346).
