PURPOSE: To obtain a heat ray reflective transparent body which is large in heat reflective performance and has durability by only a film having a three- layer structure by forming a third layer consisting of a metal oxide film by arc discharge of metal in oxygen in reduced pressure (incorporating inert gas) in case of interposing a noble metallic film between the metal oxide film and a glass plate.
CONSTITUTION: In a method for interposing a noble metallic film between the metal oxide film and the transparent base body such as a glass plate, the metal oxide of at least third layer (outside layer) is formed by arc discharge of metal (e.g., Ti, Nb, Ta, Zr, Sn, etc.,) made to this metal oxide film in oxygen or in oxygen with inert gas in reduced pressure. Since the formation velocity is made extremely rapid, noble metal is not exposed to the plasma for such a long time that noble metal has been completely oxidized and thereby noble metal continuously holds original excellent heat ray reflective function. Therefore the heat ray reflective glass which is large in heat ray reflective performance and has durability by only the film having the three-layer structure can be obtained.
