Abstract:

To provide a high alloy build-up welding roll grooved for continuous casting, which is improved in heat crack propagating characteristic.

On the surface of the roll body, a high alloy layer of Ni group or Co group is formed by a cladding by welding or cladding by spraying method so that the effective thickness of the high alloy layer after lathe turning finishing is 0.5-3.0 mm, and the groove having a depth in excess of the effective thickness of the high alloy layer is formed on the surface of the roll body. According to the invention, reduction of residual stress due to thermal stress of the high alloy layer is made possible, as are release of the thermal stress, thermal diffusion by the groove, efficiency of cooling, prevention of heat crack, induction of propagation passage of heat crack, and so on, greatly contributing to the improvement in durability of a continuous casting roll.
