Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the voltage-controlled oscillator which operates at high frequency. CONSTITUTION: A phase-locked loop 10 operates irrelevantly to variation in temperature and changes of processes by loading a VCO 22 digitally until a desired operation frequency is reached. Current mirrors are controlled to increase the switching current of an inverter without making the response of the VCO to variation in loop node voltage slower, and then the VCO reaches a high output frequency even under the worst conditions. An initializing circuit for VDD sets the loop node voltage to VDD, so that the VCO is made slower down to the desired operation frequency only by placing a load by a load control circuit. A frequency range detector monitors the output frequency of the VCO and sends a control signal to the load control circuit to actuates the digital load, thereby lowering the VCO down to the desired operation frequency.
