PURPOSE: To obtain a high molecular flocculating agent excellent in the rate of removal of COD in waste water by combining both a formaldehyde condensation product such as naphthalenesulfonate and an acrylamide-base polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A formaldehyde condensation product of an aromatic compd. which consists of (alkyl)naphthalenesulfonate such as alkali metallic salt of β-naphthalenesulfonic acid or (alkali)naphthalenesulfonate such as alkyl- substituted benzenesulfonic acid as a main component is utilized. A nonionic acrylamide-base polymer such as polyacrylamide and/or an anionic acrylamide- base polymer such as a partially hydrolyzed product of polyacrylamide are combined therewith. The rate of polymerization is regulated to 5:95W30:70. Excellent removal of COD is performed by this high molecular flocculating agent obtained in such a way even when the treatment system to be flocculated which is an object is fluctuated.
