Title:
HIGH-POLYMER DISPERSION TYPE LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND PRODUCTION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2934071
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To allow an extremely good liquid crystal display to be executed with a good contrast, high response, etc., by crimping a liquid crystal layer consisting of porous polymer beads bored with many fine pores and the liquid crystal materials packed into the pores thereof between electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: The principle of driving utilizes refractive index anisotropy to change the refractive index of the liquid crystal by the presence or absence of the voltage impression between the electrodes so as to attain a transparent state when the refractive index of the liquid crystal and the refractive index of a resin matrix coincide and to attain a scattering state when these refractive indices vary. The liquid crystal-impregnated porous polymer to be used is not particularly limited, insofar as the polymer beads to be formed by using such polymer satisfy the conditions of the prescribed refractive index and do not dissolve in the liquid crystal to be used. The liquid crystal to be used includes a nematic liquid crystal, smectic liquid crystal, etc., which may be used alone or in combination. The use of the nematic liquid crystal having particularly high dielectric anisotropy is more preferable in order to obtain good characteristics.
