PURPOSE: To obtain a plastic lens having a refractive index similar to or higher than ordinary glass lenses in refractive index and superior in impact resisting strength and heat resistance by using a copolymer obtained by reacting 2,2- bisphenolsulfone (bisphenol-S) deriv. di(meth)acrylate with a copolymerizable vinyl copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: The plastic lens is made of a copolymer having a structure represented by the formula shown on the right in which R1, R2 are each H or methyl; X is Cl, Br, or I, m is 0W4; n is 0 or 1; A is a unit derived from the copolymerized vinyl monomer; bisphenol S deriv. di(meth)crylate units (p) may amount to 50W90wt%, preferably, 50W75wt%; and A units (q) is 10W50wt%. When said (p) is <50wt%, cross-linking becomes deficient, because the di(meth)crylate is deficient, and the lens high in heat resistance and impact resistance is hardly obtained, and when >90wt%, the di(meth)crylate is too rich, so, solubility is made too small, and hardly practicable. The weight proportion of each copolymer components can be easily determined by FT-IR, NMR, elementary analysis, and the like.
