PURPOSE: To provide the titled holding furnace which can feed stably a molten metal at a feeding rate with high accuracy at a low cost by the constitution in which an electromagnetic pump is provided on the outside circumference of a tapping pipe attached in the lower part of the side face of the hermetically closed holding furnace to feed a molten metal from the holding furnace into the cavity.

CONSTITUTION: A melt 13 of Mg is stored in a holding furnace 12 lined internally with a heat insulating material 11 and a cover 15 having a cap 14 is provided in the upper part thereof to close hermetically the furnace. An inert gas such as gaseous N2 or the like is sealed therein and a heat insulating material 17 is placed in the upper part on the inside of the cover 15. A bar-shaped heater 16 of a radiation type is provided thereto to permit heating and melting of the Mg replenished by opening the cap 14. An electromagnetic pump 19 is disposed on the outside circumference of a tapping pipe 18 projected on side face of the furnace 12 and relatively in the lower part thereof to feed the molten Mg in the furnace 12 via nozzles 20, 21, 22 into a plunger sleeve 23 from which the molten metal is further injected into the cavity of the die casting machine by the operation of plunger (not shown).
