To prevent the contrast of a display device which uses a hologram color filter from being decreased by suppressing the 0th order of the transmitted light.
This hologram color filter system consists of an array of light converging holograms 5', which performs the wavelength dispersion and spectral diffusion of white light 4 made incident at a specific angle to the normal of a hologram recording surface almost along the hologram recording surface. Here, this system is provided with either a polarizing plate 13 which limits the white light made incident on the hologram color filter 5 to only S-polarized light or a louver which nearly cuts off the transmitted light 14 of 0th order passing without being diffracted by the hologram color filter 5, a liquid crystal layer, a multi-layered interference film, a reflection type volume hologram, a transparent plate, a transparent wedge plate, or a total reflecting prism body.
