PURPOSE: To enable the independent installation and operation of respective strands by submerging one end part of a melt conduit formed to an inverted U shape into the molten steel in a tundish, and connecting the other end part in one body to a mold in the position lower than the level of the molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: Carriage 41 is run along rails 40 to bring a tundish 11 to right under a ladle 10. One end part of a melt conduit 15 for each strand is tilted and submerged into the tundish 11, and the sliding gate 42 in the bottom of the ladle 10 is operated to charge molten steel 12 into the tundish 11. A siphon effect is generated in the conduit 15 by drawing a dummy bar and the steel 12 is conducted with the conduit 15 to a mold 16 and is cooled by the mold. The molten steel is drawn as an ingot 37 with pinch rolls. The conduit 15 and the mold 16 are oscillated along the drawing direction 17 by the extending and contracting motion of a cylinder 26, whereby the seizure of the ingot 37 and the mold 16 is prevented and the continuous drawing is made possible.
