To provide a printer system equipped with a function for performing printing processing after the page description language(PDL) translation of print data into a form for accelerating the total processing speed by distributing processing of host and a printer corresponding to the object constitution of print data, the environments of CPU or memories in the printer and the host and the speed of transfer between the printer and the host.

A printer driver 12 of a host 1 determine the kind (form such as bit map, scan line or bus) of a graphics command to be outputted from the priority of object (character, image or graphics) of the print data in a PDL mode discriminating part 13 and memory capacitance usable for interpreting a PDL and performs the PDL translation in that mode. While considering the processing speeds of the printer and the host and further the style of connection between the printer and the host, the PDL mode is discriminated to speed up the operation.
