To provide a method for stopping hydrogen-containing gas generation equipment that can reduce a load concerning maintenance while preventing temporary elevation of a carbon monoxide concentration in the generated hydrogen-containing gas to a level higher than usual at the operation stopping time or the operation starting time; and to provide hydrogen-containing gas generation equipment.
The hydrogen-containing gas generation equipment has a reforming part 6, a modification part 7, and a selective oxidation part 9. The method for stopping the equipment includes the following: when the supply of a raw fuel to the reforming part 6 is stopped to stop the operation of the equipment, a purge gas is supplied to the reforming part 6 while the supply of an oxygen-containing gas to the selective oxidation part 9 is being continued; a gas remaining in the selective oxidation part 9 is purged out by the purge gas; and when the selective oxidation part 9 is filled or almost filled with the purge gas upon purging the remaining gas, the supply of the oxygen-containing gas to the selective oxidation part 9 is stopped.
