To improve fuel consumption by reducing a loss of engine output caused by slipping of a torque converter in a parallel type hybrid vehicle wherein the torque converter is interposed, in an engine and drive wheels.
A motor for traveling is directly connected with drive wheels. The engine is connected with the drive wheels through the torque converter and an automatic transmission. A first region 31 and a second region 32 based on car speed and an accelerator pedal depressed amount are set in a supervision control unit ECU. The second region 32 is set to a traveling region where a traveling load does not exceed rated output of the motor for traveling. When power control of the motor for traveling is possible, the first and the second region 31, 32 are set as a lockup region, thereby the torque converter is locked.
