To provide a hydraulic control device which can avoid abrupt deceleration even at the time of a failure of a shift hydraulic control valve without adding an additional solenoid valve.
The hydraulic control device comprises a primary regulator valve 110 adjusting in pressure a line oil pressure PL, an initial pressure of a belt type continuously variable transmission 40 and each oil pressure, a shift hydraulic control valve 120 supplying a shifting hydraulic pressure PIN to a drive side pulley 41 of the belt type continuously variable transmission 40. Furthermore, a fail-safe valve 190 is arranged between the shift hydraulic control valve 120 and the drive side pulley 41. Additionally, the fail-safe valve 190 is switched so that the line hydraulic pressure PL is supplied to the drive side pulley 41 by an ON-OFF solenoid valve SL1 and a linear solenoid valve SLT at the time of failure of the shift hydraulic control valve 120, or a linear solenoid valve SLP controlling this.
