Abstract:
PURPOSE:To accurately measure an edge feature from the density pattern of picture elements nearby the edge in a digital image by using point spread functions in a scanning line direction and a direction orthogonal to it as parameters together with the edge feature. CONSTITUTION:For a combination of an edge position rho and an edge direction theta, the mapping of the picture elements nearby the edge into the density pattern is obtained in consideration of the point spread functions at the time of the input of the digital image. The reverse mapping from the calculated density pattern of the picture elements nearby the edge to the edge position rho and edge direction theta is determined by using an error reverse propagation type neural network which inputs density and outputs the edge position rho and edge direction theta. Then the reverse mapping is used to calculate the edge position rho and edge direction theta from the density pattern of the picture elements nearby the edge in the optional image which is actually inputted. Consequently, the edge feature is measured with high accuracy and parallel processing is applied to measure the edge feature in real time.
