PURPOSE: To improve work efficiency and reduce the time from initial firing to taking out of product by dividing a charcoal kiln into a lid and a kiln body and by moving the lid up and down with an electric hoist.

CONSTITUTION: A charcoal kiln comprises a kiln body 3 and a lid 1 which comprises the central core made of iron and the front and back surface layers made of a fire-resistant concrete. The ground on which the kiln body 3 is installed is pentalayered: the top layer of concrete 6, the second layer of clay 7, the third layer of black soil 8, the fourth layer of sand 9, and the bottom layer of concrete 6. Two or more such kilns are installed in a conical building having a ceiling equipped with a traversing rail for hanging down. An electric hoist is installed on the rail and connected to the lid 1 through a drawing-up rope 2. The hoist moves the lid 1 up and down when raw lumber is carried in or when the product is taken out. Thus, the number of the lids can be less than that of the kiln bodies by one, and charcoal is produced using the kilns one after another in a rotary manner.
