Abstract:
A method of desorbing fission iodine from a nitrate solution containing nuclear fuels and/or fission products, wherein the solution is distilled, has addition of an oxidising gas at least partially directly into the gas chamber above the solution. The oxidising gas, preferably ozone, reforms elemental iodine in the vapour phase preventing return of iodides to the solution. In prior methods the oxidising gas lost activity as it was added through the solution.
