The ignition coil for an internal combustion engine includes a center core 1 disposed inside a primary coil 2 and a secondary coil 3, and a side core 4 disposed outside the primary coil 2 and the secondary coil 3 so as to have one end face abutting one end face of the center core 1 and the other end face abutting the other end face of the center core 1 via a magnet 5. The side core 4 comprises a plurality of side core parts 9, 10 of laminated magnetic steel plates divided in longitudinally different positions, and has an overlap portion 11 in which the magnetic steel plates of the adjacent side core parts 9, 10 overlap between the longitudinally different positions.
