To provide a lighting device, an illumination appliance, and an illumination system that can reduce the discomfort of light emitted by a light source regarding an illumination light communication device.SOLUTION: A lighting device according to the present invention includes a lighting circuit for turning on a light source and a control unit for controlling the lighting circuit. The control unit determines whether an external unit is connected or not, turns on the light source according to a dimming command value transmitted from the external unit if the external unit is connected, and turns on the light source at a predetermined dimming rate if the external unit is not connected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
