To provide a high-performance image display device, such as an organic EL display device that can be used satisfactorily over a long period of time, and to provide its manufacturing method.
The image display device includes an element substrate 3; a drive circuit 6 formed on the element substrate 3; an insulating film 8 covering the drive circuit 6; a flattening film 9 which is formed on the insulating film 8, so as to partially expose the insulating film 8 and is made of an organic material; and a light-emitting element 11 formed on the flattening film 9; and a sealing film 15, which is stuck from an end part of the flattening film 9 to an upper face of the insulating film 8 and is spaced from the light-emitting element 11 and is electrically insulated from the light-emitting element.
