To provide an image display and a projector, which can prevent a recording medium and image information recorded in the recording medium from being handled by other users.
A remote controller 23 includes a DVD lock key, and a user can switch a DVD locked state and an unlocked state by operating the DVD lock key in a power ON state. Then, when the unlocked state is set, the operation (DVD operation) of a DVD operation key provided on a body operation part 22 and the remote controller 23 is effective at all times and the operation of a DVD reproduction part 27 is permitted. Meanwhile, when the DVD locked state is set, all the DVD operations are ineffective and the operation of the DVD reproduction part 27 is inhibited unless the authentication of the user by an identification number is established.
