Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a cleaning mechanism capable of discharging toner from a cleaning means to a photoreceptor at low cost and in a short time.
SOLUTION: The apparatus 2 is provided with: a photoreceptor 4; means 26 and 12 for forming a latent image on the photoreceptor; a developing apparatus 16 for developing the latent image with the toner 14; a transfer roller 36 for transferring a toner image to a recording medium; and a cleaning roller 42 for recovering the residual toner on the photoreceptor after a transfer process. In cleaning, a voltage whose polarity is the same as that of the negative polarity toner is applied to the cleaning roller so as to shift the toner from the cleaning roller to the photoreceptor. In cleaning, the developing apparatus recovers the toner shifted from the cleaning roller to the photoreceptor. In applying the negative-polarity voltage on the cleaning roller in cleaning, a positive-polarity voltage is applied on the transfer roller in order to charge the surface of the photoreceptor so as to electrically energize the toner from the cleaning roller toward the photoreceptor.
