Abstract:
To appropriately determine the life of a developing device in an image forming apparatus having a plurality of image forming modes different in rotational peripheral speed ratio between a photoconductor drum and a developing roller.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a first mode and a second mode different in rotational peripheral speed ratio of a developer carrier. The image forming apparatus stores a first life threshold of a developing device corresponding to the first mode and a second life threshold of the developing device corresponding to the second mode, on the basis of first drive amount information when the developer carrier operates in the first mode and second drive amount information when the developer carrier operates in the second mode, gradually adds the drive amount information of the developer carrier to a life determination value of the developing device or gradually reduces the drive amount information from an initial value to update the life determination value, on the basis of the first life threshold or a third life threshold and the life determination value, performs first determination on the life in the first mode, on the basis of the second life threshold or a fourth life threshold and the life determination value, performs second determination on the life in the second mode, and performs notification based on results of the determination.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
