Abstract:
To reduce the time required for the setting of a developing bias applied to a developer carrier.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a rotatable image carrier; an electrifying member that electrifies the image carrier; a rotatable developer carrier that is provided opposite to the image carrier in a non-contact state and carries developer; an application unit that applies, to the developer carrier, a developing bias in which a DC voltage and an AC voltage are superimposed on each other; a detection unit that detects the value of a current flowing between the image carrier and the developer carrier; and a control unit that, in a state where the image carrier and the developer carrier are rotated and the developing bias is applied to the developer carrier, controls the AC voltage applied to the developer carrier from the value of the current detected by the detection unit. The control unit sets the AC voltage applied to the developer carrier to an AC voltage with a range of decrease according to the value of the current detected by the detection unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
