To provide an image forming apparatus that can maintain the quality of an image forming unit even if the starting date of the use of the image forming unit is delayed from a manufacturing date and an elapsed period from manufacture exceeds a use guarantee equivalent period.SOLUTION: A control unit 76 calculates, based on manufacturing date information indicating the manufacturing date of an image forming unit, an elapsed period (Xi) from the manufacturing date of the image forming unit until the date when the image forming unit is attached. The control unit 76 calculates a remaining period (Xr) until an image defect occurs based on the elapsed period (Xi). The control unit 76 determines whether the remaining period (Xr) is longer than a period equivalent to a use guarantee period (XI) from the manufacturing date during which the quality of the image forming unit is guaranteed. When determining that the remaining period (Xr) is not longer than the period equivalent to the use guarantee period (XI), the control unit 76 controls a first driving unit 70 to increase the linear pressure of a cleaning member 641 against a peripheral surface of an image carrier 61 at a timing satisfying a predetermined condition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
