PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for a photosensitive drum and a toner fixing heater and to eliminate the need for executing the entire stage in a dark place by using a recording medium which can be reversibly controlled in hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties by the transfer of a chemical structure as a latent image forming means.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet 2 consisting of a photochromic polymer wound on the surface of a drum 1 is the recording medium, the surface of which reversibly causes the transfer of the chemical structure in response with an external signal and exhibits the hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties by this transfer of the chemical structure. This sheet is used as the latent image forming means. The latent images are formed by irradiating the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 constituted in such a manner with light. The irradiated regions are hydrophilic and the regions not irradiated with the light are hydrophobic; therefore, the images appear only in the regions irradiated with the light if water-soluble ink 6 is used. The image forming device which does not require the photosensitive drum and the toner fixing heater and does not require the execution of the entire stage in the dark plate is obtd. in this way.
