PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stable potential by electrification and image, regardless of environmental changes and changes with time, with an inexpensive constitution by setting a DC voltage applied to an electrifying member, based on the output of a photosensor for detecting the reflection density of the surface of a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: This image forming device is provided with a voltage applying means for applying the DC voltage to the electrifying member 2, the photosensor 10 for detecting the reflection density of the surface of the photoreceptor 1 and a voltage control means for changing the DC voltage applied to the electrifying member 2, in a nonimage forming region and setting the DC voltage applied to the electrifying member 2, in accordance with the output ratio of the photosensor 10 before and after the change. Thus, surface density (at reversal development) by a potential by the electrification or image density (at normal development) is directly detected by the photosensor 10. Further, a developing means is of a reversal developing system one and the voltage control means sets the DC voltage applied to the electrifying member 2, at which the output ratio of the photosensor 10 is set within a fixed range. Thus, surface staining caused by the decrease of a voltage at the time of attaining the reversal development can be surely prevented.
