PURPOSE: To obtain the device which can continuously vary the aspect of an image by a single optical system and can record/reproduce the images of various aspects without newly preparing any optical system.

CONSTITUTION: A photographic cylinder lens 9 is provided to enable variable magnification only in the specified direction of a screen, an imaging device 11 is provided to convert an image formed by the cylinder lens 9 into a video signal, a VTR is provided to record the variable power information of the photographic cylinder lens 9 in a magnetic tape 15 together with video signals and to read the video signals from the magnetic tape 15, a projector is provided to convert image information into optical information, to project the information by the cylinder lens 21 for projection enabling variable magnification only in the specified direction and to display the information, and a lens driving circuit 24 is provided to vary the power of the cylinder lens 21 for projection based on the variable power information recorded in the magnetic tape 15.
