PURPOSE: To automatically extract the contour line of a required organ by extracting plural border lines after the smoothing of a still picture for medical diagnosis, extracting the contour line of the desired organ from these border lines and correcting the shape of that contour line.
CONSTITUTION: Concerning an image processor 4 for medical diagnosis to extract the contour line of the desired organ from the still picture for medical diagnosis, a microcomputer 4 is provided with functions as a border line extracting means, contour line extracting means and contour line shape correcting means and the inputted still picture for medical diagnosis is spatially smoothed by a spatial filter 8. Then, the border line extracting means installed in the microcomputer 4 extracts the plural border lines from the image provided by the spatial filter 8, the contour line extracting means extracts a border line corresponding to the contour of the desired organ as the contour line from the plural extracted border lines, and the contour line shape correcting means corrects the shape of the extracted contour line.
