A color image processor 1 is comprised of an A/D conversion part 11, a shading correction part 12, an input gradation correction part 13, a color correction part 14, an ink generating under-color removal part 15, a zoom processing part 16, a space filter part 17, a halftone generation part 18, and a character edge discrimination part 20, and the character edge discrimination part 20 is comprised of a line memory 21, edge detection parts 22C, 22M, and 22Y, character discrimination parts 23C, 23M, and 23Y, and a threshold setting part 26. And the threshold setting part 26 linearly calculates threshold Thmax, Thmin, and Thdif on the basis of a prescribed reference value in accordance with change of a variable magnification Z in the zoom processing part 16.
