Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image projection system that sufficiently reduces speckle noise.SOLUTION: An image projection system 1 includes a spatial modulation element 14a and a phase modulation element 3 having birefringence. The phase modulation element 3 includes a plurality of birefringent parts 32 that have media 32a and 32b with different refractive indices arranged in parallel in a stripe manner to have birefringence and have an optical axis in a direction where the media are arranged in parallel. The birefringent parts 32 are each arranged to have the optical axis intersecting the optical axis of other adjacent birefringent parts, and light emitted from one pixel transmits over the plurality of birefringent parts 32.
