To provide an image reader where a distance from LED chips to an image read face is reduced, dispersion if light emission intensity on the image read face is reduced and sufficient emission intensity is obtained at the image read face, even under a low LED chip density.
This image reader is provided with an LED array 1, having a plurality of LED chips 8 arranged on a line to emit a light onto an image, a light transmission plane 4 providing an image read face 5 to read an image, and an optical film 2 arranged between the LED array 1 and the optical transmission plate 4, and the optical film 2 has a transmittivity distribution opposite to the light emission intensity distribution on the image read face 5 in the direction of the line on which the LED chips 8 are arranged.
