Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a stripe image in a manner that a correction trace is inconspicuous even when the thickness of a stripe changes.SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus detects stripe pixels forming a stripe image from image data obtained by reading a fed manuscript, to correct the stripe image. A control unit of the image reading apparatus stores the value of a hysteresis width having the value of a detected stripe width as an initial value, and whenever detecting a stripe width, increments a hysteresis counter if the value of the detected stripe width is equal to the value of the hysteresis width, whereas decrements if both are different. When the value of the hysteresis counter is lower than an upper limit value, the control unit determines to correct the stripe image without including the increased pixels in the stripe image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
