Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device where a white reference plate is operated fast surely holding at a prescribed read position, for an improved read precision.
SOLUTION: An optical character reading device comprises an output level correcting mechanism 36 which corrects the output voltage of a CCD image sensor according to the reference level. The output level correcting mechanism comprises a support mechanism which pivots a white reference plate 42 between a read position R and a retreat position receded from the read position, and a drive motor 54 which comprises a cam 52 contacting a roller 48 of the support mechanism and rotates the cam. The output level correcting mechanism rotates the white reference plate from the retreat position to the read position whenever reading the medium, for correcting an output level.
