Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a recording position on a sheet and suitably protect a recording head by providing a means for operating the head in a split operating area, a recording area setting means for operating the head on the split area, and a means for deciding a position reference of medium to be recorded for the recording area.
SOLUTION: A carriage 1 is scanned along a guide shaft 2 in a range of a divisible maximum recording width PW1 of a scanning area, its position is detected by a position detecting mechanism, and respective scanning areas are recorded by mounted recording heads 4A to 4C. The divided area of heads 4A to 4C are realized by the width PW1, a recording sheet is conveyed in this area with a first sheet reference S1 as a reference, and a second recording width PW21 is a maximum width of a split scanning area by only a head 4C with the S1 as an end. Similarly, the recording widths in a plurality of duplicate scanning areas by heads 4B, 4C and A, B; B, C are set at respective recording widths by PW22, PW3 at each sheet size, and a sheet position is specified by a sensor and a guide 103.
