To provide an image recording device having improved maintenance quality by allowing easy detection and removal of a recording material jammed on a carrying passage.

The image recording device 1 has a cartridge loaded therein for storing the rolled recording material, wherein the recording material drawn from the cartridge is carried through the carrying passage to an image recording part and images are recorded thereon. On the carrying passage, there are arranged a detecting sensor for detecting the existence or not of the recording material, a cutter part for cutting the recording material and a reference position detecting sensor for detecting the reference position of the recording material near the upstream side of the image recording part. The jamming of the recording material is detected by monitoring whether the recording material on the carrying passage is carried or not from the detecting sensor to the reference position detecting sensor in a preset time. When the jamming is detected, the cutter part is operated to cut the recording material and a warning part warns that the recording material should be removed.
