To provide an image scanner and a data processing system capable of totalizing the amount of expended money through a simple operation.
Data of an image on a document read out by the image reader of a portable telephone (K1) is transmitted from a data transmitting section to a server (K2). When the image data is received at a communicating section on the server side (SV1), it is converted into character data at a data converting section (SV2) and numeric data contained in the converted character data is totalized at a totalizing section (SV3). When the document is a receipt received at a shop, or the like, and the amount of money printed on the receipt is read out by the image reader of the portable telephone, image at the part of the amount of money is transmitted to the server and the image data is converted into character data at the server and then the numeric data contained in the character data is totalized.
