To provide an imaging apparatus etc. designed such that the range of movement of a subject is easily and correctly determined and the range of movement of a focusing lens is restricted according to the predetermined range.
A DSC 29 having an automatic focusing function includes at least an imaging optical system OS, and a control section CPU, an LCD 16b, and a cross key 18g capable of specifying an arbitrary area of an image on the LCD 16b. In the DSC 29, when a plurality of areas of an image on the LCD 16b are specified by the cross key 18g, the control section CPU gathers all focusing positions of the focusing lens FL, which correspond to subject light images corresponding to the specified areas. The control CPU determines, as a focusing range, the range from the shortest focusing position to the longest focusing position of the gathered focusing positions.
