To provide an imaging apparatus capable of properly displaying an object image on a display means while quickly performing automatic focus control.
A digital camera uses a CCD to acquire image data of an object. The CCD has an ordinary mode wherein all pixels of image data are outputted at 60 fps and an area limit mode wherein areas including a focus area limited in the image data are outputted at 180 fps as output modes of the image data. The ordinary mode is selected in a live view operation for the output mode of the CCD21 and the area limit mode and the ordinary mode are switched for a period of 1/60 seconds in automatic focus control. While the output mode of the CCD is set to the area limit mode, a state of a display screen of a liquid crystal monitor is maintained. Thus, an object image is properly displayed on the display screen of the liquid crystal display monitor while quickly performing automatic focus.
