To provide an imaging apparatus capable of more securely reducing a shock caused when it is dropped.

The imaging apparatus provided with a zoom lens unit 13 has a detecting means for detecting drop of the imaging apparatus or the situation which is inferred to cause shock and a position controlling means. The position controlling means brings the zoom lens unit 13 to a target position having stronger resistance to shock than that of a position where drop or the situation is detected by the detecting means when detecting drop or the situation by the detecting means. The target position is decided based on the conditions including a condition of the zoom lens unit 13 when detecting.
