In the image capturing apparatus including an imaging means having a plurality of pixels, respective images of the moving image with the first number of pixels are read from the imaging means and out and recorded in a predetermined cycle (M0, M1, M3, M4). When instructions to record a still image are received during recording of the moving image, the still image having the second number of pixels more than the first number of pixels is read out and recorded (S2). The plurality of pixels are separated into a priority area and the other area and during recording of the moving image and the still image, prior to the pixels in the other area, the pixel in the priority area are subjected to reset drive and readout drive.
