Abstract:

To enable speedy focus detection by both a phase difference detection system and a contract detection system with inexpensive constitution using not a dedicated sensor, but a sensor for imaging.

An imaging unit has a solid-state imaging device (104) which comprises a plurality of pixels (71-11 to 71-44) each of which has a plurality of photoelectric conversion area (1, 51) and output systems (2-6, 52, 53) capable of outputting signals obtained from the plurality of photoelectric conversion areas for each of the photoelectric conversion areas, and a total control and arithmetic part (109) which obtains evaluation values of a plurality of focus detection systems from the same signal obtained from the plurality of photoelectric conversion areas and performs focusing control on the basis of the obtained evaluation values.
