PURPOSE: To provide a new imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine compound or its salt having angiotensin II antagonistic action and hypotensive action, useful as an agent for the treatment of circulatory diseases such as hypertension and effective by oral administration.
CONSTITUTION: The imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine compound of formula I (R1 is alkyl, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, etc.; R2 and R3 are H, halogen, etc.; R4 and R5 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, etc.; R6 is COOH, CONH2, CN, SO3H, etc; R7 and R8 are H, halogen, alkyl, etc.] or its salt, e.g. 2-[3-bromo-6-[(2-buty1-4-chloro-5-hydroxymethyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]imidazo-[1,2-a]pyridin-2- yl]benzoic acid. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II (L is eliminable group; R24 to R28 are same as R4 to R8 or a group convertible to the corresponding group of R4 to R8) with a compound of formula III (R21 to R23 are same as R1 to R3, etc.).
