Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a vulcanizate improved in the balance among the properties of an ethylene/vinyl acetate polymer.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a process for vulcanizing an ethylene/vinyl acetate polymer which comprises mixing 100 pts.wt. ethylene/vinyl acetate polymer with 0 to about 60 pts.wt. reinforcing filler, 0 to about 15 pts.wt. zinc oxide, about 1 to about 10 pts.wt. organic peroxide and about 5 to about 35 pts.wt. zinc acrylate and heating this mixture to about 150 to about 180°C for about 10 to about 60 min to form a vulcanizate. Part of the ethylene/vinyl acetate polymer can be replaced by an ethylene/propylene/nonconjugated diene.
