Title:
IMPROVED HYDROFORMING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5392707
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
A process for the hydroformylation of an alpha-olefin to produce aldehydes with a carbon atom more than the alpha-olefin, by reacting the alpha-olefin with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in a liquid reaction medium containing a complex catalyst. Soluble rhodium consisting essentially of rhodium complexed with carbon monoxide and a triarylphosphine ligand, and in the presence of free triarylphosphine, characterized in that it comprises improving the stability of the catalyst by providing in the liquid reaction medium containing the catalyst an amount of an alkyldiarylphosphine ligand, and the control of the reaction conditions at a temperature of about 100 to about 140º c, a total gas pressure of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and alpha-olefin of less than about 31.6 kg/cm 2 absolute, a partial pressure of carbon monoxide less than about 3,86 kg/cm2 absolute, a pre partial hydrogen atom less than about 14.06 kg/cm2 absolute, and at least about 75 moles of total free phosphine ligand for each mole of catalytically active metallic rhodium present in the rhodium complex catalyst consisting essentially of rhodium forming complex with carbon monoxide and one or both of said triarylphosphine and said alkyldiarylphosphine.
