PURPOSE: To prevent an indicating beam from being shielded so as to indicate a position of a component on a substrate accurately by a method wherein a component inserting position is indicated by an indicating head provided above a circuit substrate which electric components are to be inserted into, where the indicating head is driven in X-Y directions and projects an indicating beam downward to the substrate.

CONSTITUTION: When optional indicating switches are successively operated, an indicating head 24 of a position indicator 20 projects a beam so as to indicate an inserting position corresponding to a component to be inserted. In conjunction with the indication, a component feeder 14 rotates a tray T by a specified angle preset in accordance with a component feeding procedure, whereby a component corresponding to a component inserting position on a circuit substrate K is made to front toward an operator. The operator inserts the component to the component inserting position indicated by the indicating head 24 one by one in succession. As mentioned above, components are successively mounted on the circuit substrate K, and when the mounting of electric components corresponding to all the component inserting positions is completed, a pedal switch 51 is operated to be ON, the circuit substrate K is transferred to the following step, and a new circuit substrate K is transferred to an inserting operation position.
