This industrial robot has the robot control device 11 and the teaching operation panel 12 detachably connected to the robot control device 11, teaching a desired work action to a robot, and having an emergency stop circuit switch for stopping the action of the robot in emergency. A connection control part 13 judges a connecting state of the robot control device 11 and the teaching operation panel 12, and controls operation of the emergency stop circuit switch arranged on the teaching operation panel 12 and supply of a power source to the teaching operation panel 12 by the connecting state. Thus, the attaching detaching work of the robot control device 11 and the teaching operation panel 12 becomes further simple, the state can be easily detected even when the incomplete connection is caused in an attaching detaching part, and use of the teaching operation panel 12 can be prohibited or the function can be restricted so that a safer robot operation environment can be obtained.
